The Portland Timbers announced they have exercised their option on forward Nathan Fogaça‘s contract. Under the new contract, he will play at Providence Park until the 2023 MLS season, with a club option in 2024.
Fogaça will provide depth at the No.9 spot
The 23-year-old Brazilian, who joined the Timbers from his hometown of Corteba last May, scored twice on his debut in Portland’s win over Kansas City. However, that proved to be his only goal in the remaining 11 games of the season, with Fogasa also providing an assist.
Fogaça also has two goals and one assist in four MLS NEXT Pro games for the Portland Timbers 2, while he previously tasted success in the USL, where he scored 13 goals in 34 appearances for San Antonio FC.
Going into the 2023 season, Fogaça will continue to provide depth to the Timbers’ No. 9 behind Felipe Mora and Jaroslaw Niezgoda, although new general manager Ned Grabavoy has hinted that the club may strengthen further in this area.
Portland kicks off their 2023 MLS season by hosting Sporting Kansas City on Feb. 25.
